Hi! I'm Lottie Dal. I'm a textile artist based in Northwest Florida. My work deals primarily with transforming heirloom and vintage quilts into wearable art. Most of the quilts that make their way to me are damaged in some way- whether it be decomposition, rips, stains, or water damage. I am passionate about preserving the original maker's work by repairing or using creative cutting techniques to reshape the quilt into a coat that can be enjoyed for years to come.

My favorite thing about quilt coats is the thing I hated most about being a quilter. No one uses a quilt. Someone has this beautiful thing that took you forever and they don't use it. It’s too precious. It's too beautiful. What if something spills? So they stick it in a closet or drape it over a decorative chair. No one takes it to the beach to get sandy or puts it on the grass at the park- which is what quilters want you to do. When you make quilts into coats, you’re putting neglected art out into the world. It was full of holes and stains or was rotting in a cedar chest, but now it goes to the movies and gets compliments.

In addition to my work with quilts, I have a soft spot for sustainable fashion and helping to keep textiles out of landfills. I love to upcycle damaged clothing to create one of a kind garments and accessories. My absolute favorite is working with vintage leathers and corduroys that would have otherwise been discarded.

When not in my studio sitting behind my Juki, I can be found roller skating, reading, or trying to convince someone that Days Gone is the best video game of all time.

My readymade pieces (as seen on Instagram) are sold through my retail partner, Throw. Visit Throw’s website (throwmidland.com) to snag your favorite coat or to find out where she’ll be popping up next.
